The Cancer Support Centre-Sutton Coldfield

Make a difference for someone with cancer

The past 18 months have been incredibly challenging for those affected by cancer with cancellations, delays and wait for treatment. We give the opportunity to talk freely, address fears and challenges, learn techniques to use to manage the effects surgery, treatments and cancer can have.

Situation

Cancer causes fear, anxiety, vulnerability. More clients express mental health challenges as treatments/surgery were cancelled/postponed. Clients are more anxious about the future, and any physical impacts arising from treatment and surgery cause high levels of stress in addition to their diagnosis, treatment regimes, visiting the hospital. Often they cannot talk easily to family without fear of upset, or cancer specialists due to lack of time about their personal challenges, fears and feelings

Solution

We provide a safe place to talk freely, address fears/challenges, and learn techniques to use to manage the effects surgery, treatments and cancer can have. Through 1:1 therapeutic interventions, wellbeing talks, workshops; within a programme tailored specifically to clients’ needs. Emphasis is always on reducing stress, raising self-esteem, creativity, hope, empowerment and enjoyment of life. To ensure they feel as well as they possibly can wherever they are in their own journey with cancer
