School-Home Support works with disadvantaged children and families to break down barriers to education and end intergenerational cycles of deprivation. Practitioners provide a vital link between school and home tackling issues that are hampering learning, such as poverty, housing and mental health.

    Situation

Education is the key to social mobility, but too many of the country’s most disadvantaged children are missing out due to persistent absence. The impact of the pandemic has meant that the learning gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers has increased by 46%. Many parents have experienced precarious employment and reduced income. Personalised support is needed more than ever to help vulnerable children achieve their educational potential and escape intergenerational cycles of poverty.

    Solution

Our flagship programme places Practitioners in schools to provide tailored and practical support in areas where the need for family support is urgent. We work with families to co-produce a personalised plan that will increase their resilience and independence, ensuring children are in school ready to learn. Our Practitioners offer advice on finances, housing, childcare and more. They are able to provide emergency aid through our Welfare Fund, buying items such as white goods, uniforms and beds.
