Our Advice and Support Hubs in Brent and Croydon provide a safe space for young refugees to access youth and sporting activities, 1:1 casework support, English-language mentoring, and expert legal and therapeutic support. We support on average 70 young people each week through our Hubs.

Situation
The young refugees we work with are remarkably resilient yet multiply disadvantaged. Many have not arrived in the UK through safe routes and are here alone without families. Many are destitute, speak little English, have insecure immigration status, receive poor legal advice and have fragile mental health. As a result of the pandemic, we have seen an alarming deterioration in mental health and increased safeguarding concerns linked to social isolation, destitution, and anxiety about the future.
Solution
Young Roots often meets young people when they have only been in the UK for a few weeks, intervening at the earliest point. Our Advice and Support Hubs offer young refugees a safe and welcoming space to have fun, make friends and build trusted relationships which then enable them to access the vital support they need to resolve complex needs and improve their mental health. Our Hubs offer community, advocacy, and a blend of support which is often life-changing.
