    Situation

Brain injuries do not discriminate – they can happen in seconds to people of all ages in a variety of situations but the effects can last a lifetime. There are many possible causes: accidents, tumour, stroke, cardiac arrest, post viral infections such as meningitis. The impact can include: loss of independence, loss of employment/ life role, increased stress, breakdowns in family relationships, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, anxiety, depression, poor memory, impaired mobility and fatigue.

    Solution

Headway Thames Valley is a community and social network that brain injured people come to belong to. Our primary aim is to enable people to access experiences and environments which help to break down barriers and improve skills. The project aims to help clients to learn new skills as well as improving clients' moods and self-esteem, encouraging the brain's capacity to repair itself and function, helping to improve attention, awareness, boost wellbeing, mobility and reduce isolation.
