Situation
In busy, crowded east London, younger and older people of many cultural communities can live parallel lives. Poverty, poor housing and constant redevelopment lead to a sense of dislocation and loneliness that has been increased by COVID-19. For many younger and older people, isolation and loneliness is affecting their health and wellbeing. While many people of all ages are keen to connect with others, they have been unable to meet, or have chances to share their talents or learn new skills.
Solution
Magic Me works in partnership with individuals and local schools, community centres and care homes to run exciting, creative and arts projects that bring together children or young people with older people 60+. Even through lockdown, our participants have exchanged letters, drawings and poetry as a way to connect with each other. These interactions generate friendship and fun across different generations and cultures who would otherwise not be able to meet.
