Situation
Many of the children we support have profound and multiple disabilities, including Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder and epilepsy. We regularly consult with children, parents and professionals about their needs. 92% have told us that at some time their child has been refused access to clubs due to their additional needs; 85% feel there aren't enough school weekend and holiday activities and 84% found their health suffering due to caring responsibilities.
Solution
SELFA offer weekly clubs, including our Saturday Club, Family Music sessions, 1:1 music therapy and outdoor-activity focused SELFA Explorers. We provide one to one support at some sessions, allowing parents and carers respite and giving children a sense of independence. SELFA also run a range holiday activities and also family trips, an opportunity to have fun away from the daily stresses of caring for a disabled child, and a chance to meet other parents and develop support networks.
