    Situation

Sealdah train station, Kolkata is where the street children seek shelter. Their families come from villages in search of work and are unable to care for their children. As one of India’s busiest stations, these children quickly become victims of child trafficking and exploitation. Without formal records, the children cannot attend public schools. Their parents are busy at work all day and cannot provide books, stationary, uniforms for their children’s education or feed them.

    Solution

Every day, a bus collects the children and brings them to a school built for them. Here they are provided schooling, food and medical check-ups. Most of these children have not attended school so their attention span is much lower and they require greater care and support from the teachers. The schooling, care and attention is catered to their specific needs and prepares them with basic literacy skills (in English, Bengali, general knowledge) in order to integrate them into government schools.
