At a time when green space is increasingly under threat, Ford Park Community Group (FPCG) manages 8 acres of historic parkland and gardens in the heart of Ulverston. We are fund raising to maintain and manage this essential community green space for all to enjoy for their health and wellbeing.

    Situation

The wellbeing benefits derived from volunteering is immense. It provides volunteers with opportunities to build confidence and self-esteem through the development of new skills and positive relationships. Having a sense of achievement and purpose through contributing to the community is also a significant experiences and contribute to welfare and wellbeing. Volunteering opportunities for adults with additional needs are very limited.

    Solution

Our Socially Inclusive Volunteering works with vulnerable and socially isolated people. We have an active volunteer base of approx. 20 individuals of which approximately half volunteer on a regular basis weekly. Approximately 60% of our volunteers are vulnerable or have additional needs. Many are referred through local agencies and include people with learning difficulties, the isolated and the unemployed. Our volunteering develops skills and reduces isolation.
