Only 5% of refugees reach university. This limits their ability to support their families and integrate in new communities. Mosaik Education uses online education to help refugees find courses, prepare for university, apply for scholarships, and realise their higher education ambitions.

    Situation

According to the UN Refugee Agency, only 5% of refugees reach university, whilst the global average enrolment rate is 40%. Refugees experience a range of positive outcomes from accessing higher education. They become leaders within their own communities, develop greater resilience and build self sufficiency to support their families. Whilst there has been a significant increase in scholarships and online opportunities, young refugees are often unaware of the range of opportunities.

    Solution

Mosaik's Guidance Programme supports refugees plan and apply for their higher education. The Programme is an eight-week series of online workshops, learning materials and coaching. They are delivered in partnership with local community organisations, either in the centres' computer labs or remotely online. 300 refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey have taken part in the Programme. 85% of participants use new skills to access new opportunities within five weeks of finishing the programme.
