Situation

Against a backdrop of a global environmental crisis and the highest UK food poverty rates on record, large scale food waste is unacceptable. In the Midlands, hundreds of tonnes of quality, in date surplus food goes to waste each year, while thousands face hunger. FareShare Midlands has provided an emergency response during the Covid-19 crisis, and continues to support vulnerable men, women and children access quality meals through our network of charities and groups across the midlands.

Solution

FareShare Midlands works in partnership with the UKs largest food redistribution charity, FareShare, to source and redistribute quality, in date surplus food which would otherwise have gone to waste. We turn an environmental problem into a social solution. FareShare Midlands works with the charities and groups providing vital services to the most vulnerable people in the midlands to help them address the root causes of hunger.

  • Our deliveries were increased to a level that meant we could support so many families in addition to the families we support at the Melton Learning Hub. The variety of food was incredible. Families were getting a wide variety of foods from all food groups. Thank you FareShare Midlands
