A diagnosis of sight loss can be a terrifying experience. Visually impaired people can experience a significant loss of independence, struggling to carry out even simple daily tasks for themselves, & they can experience loneliness & isolation, & problems in accessing support as a result of difficulties in travelling on public transport. Many social activities & venues are off limits as they are not accessible to visually impaired people. Covid has made this situation even worse.
Cam Sight has a team of four outreach workers, supported by two mobile units fitted with a range of low vision aids, equipment & assistive technology that travel into the community to support visually impaired people in their own homes. They demonstrate equipment that promote independence at home, at work & online; offer one to one support to claim benefits & negotiate other services; & run peer support groups & a range of sports & leisure activities to improve wellbeing.
I'm so thrilled that I have these new options as just tonight the difference is really really significant... Thank you, thank you, thank you I hope you can feel as immense a sense of achievement at helping me as I feel right now sat starting work on my task list and not needing someone to help me!
In these COVID days I think it’s wonderful the challenges are being met by Cam Sight in this way as it’s very difficult without public transport to get to Cam Sight. To have a van that can come to your area, community or own home would be a wonderful gift.
I am so happy with my lamp it has made such a difference to my reading ability. Thank you for all your kind and caring help.
Dawn continued to visit, bringing wraparound glasses, magnifiers & TV glasses for me to try. I was inspired by the range of equipment... I manage well in the house now. I make tea, wash the clothes and peg them out. Little things that bored me in the past have now become a satisfactory achievement!
