    Situation

After a tough year, Shrewsbury House is back up and running at full capacity. With 306 children registered, we provide a safe environment for learning through play to develop and learn skills but this is not enough. We need to respond to the wellbeing needs of our children and young people exacerbated by the Covid pandemic. At both primary and secondary education levels, there is a lot of catching up to do against a background of deprivation if these young people's futures are to be salvaged.

    Solution

This funding will allow us develop the support we provide especially for the older young people that are school leavers who will bear the brunt of covid 19. We will appoint part-time staff to deliver specialist tuition in confidence building and self esteem, IT skills and CV writing, and engage SEN workers. For those youths who missed out on apprenticeships and FE due to the pandemic, we will provide voluntary placements so that they can learn skills in the environment of working hours.
