Today, 40 million people are trapped in modern slavery. 1 in 4 is a child. 10-year-old Suriya was trafficked into slavery after a devastating cyclone. He was alone, abused and in danger, until he was brought to safety. This Christmas, help IJM urgently find and free trafficked women, men and children.

    Situation

Forced labour slavery denies children and families their freedom. Traffickers use deception, threats or violence to force them to work for little or no pay. Survivors, many of whom are children, report horrific abuse, lack of food, sleep and medical care. Trafficked as a child, Suriya was forced to sleep outside and eat with the animals, “I was scared to fall asleep because I was scared to dream.”

    Solution

Forced labour slavery thrives when perpetrators can abuse and exploit their workers with little fear of being caught and when vulnerable people are not protected by law enforcement. International Justice Mission (IJM) partners with police and local communities to: find and bring to safety people experiencing slavery and violence, ensure traffickers are arrested and held accountable, help survivors heal through trauma-informed care, and work with local communities to tackle trafficking long-term.
