Our mission is to help older people stay connected with their communities by reducing feelings of loneliness and improving physical and mental wellbeing. As we encourage older people to return to in-person activities, the need for our assisted transport services is more important than ever.

Situation
One of the greatest challenges for many older people is access to suitable transport that will allow them to attend our groups and events. With age and confinement, mobility decreases and people lose confidence in leaving their homes. This is especially true for those who live alone, or who have complex health needs such as dementia. The pandemic has only exacerbated social isolation and loneliness, having a significant impact on older people's physical health and mental wellbeing.
Solution
We provide transport to and from Link Age Southwark's social, activity and exercise groups, as well as non-medical appointments and activities, such as shopping, hairdressing appointments or visiting a friend. We do this by recruiting volunteer drivers, arranging escorted taxis and hiring a minibus and driver. This enables us to provide a vital lifeline to many older people, helping them get out of the home, maintain independence and keep them connected with their local community.
