Merry Little Christmas

We are asking for your help to provide gifts for the 5800 children under 5 living in poverty across London that we have supported throughout 2021. We are gifting vouchers, to help parents choose a present their child really wants, and spread some joy among families.

Child poverty is rising for the first time in a generation: over 4 in 10 children in inner London are growing up in poverty. We know that Christmas can be an especially challenging time of year for low-income families, in which the divide between those with money and those without can feel particularly apparent. 1 in 5 children didn't receive a Christmas present in 2020 and we fear the same for 2021 due to the long-term financial losses suffered by families living in poverty due to the pandemic.

Over the course of the year we have supported over 5,800 children under 5, referred to us by our network of over 1,900 professionals in the community. We will distribute vouchers to families and give parents the agency and choice to select the gift they know their child would love to receive.

  • Financially, I have come into a few troubles and I'm really not sure how I will be able to give them a Christmas I would like with toys and decorations everywhere. I know Christmas isn't about gifts but it’s such a joy for me to see their little faces when they get a toy they like.

  • I had never celebrated Christmas before with gifts under the Christmas tree but the voucher provided me with the impetus to do so and now I know that it will be part of our lives for years to come. So I want to thank you for helping us make this Christmas, a very special one.

  • I was able to buy two board games for my 3 year old that kept him busy and helped us bond together. I wrapped them up and put them under a mini Christmas tree. My son could not wait until Christmas and on Christmas day his first words were: 'Can I open my gifts, now?'
