    Situation

Patients with dementia are often omitted from palliative care as it is difficult to identify end of life, despite hospice care being proven to reduce distress and enhance comfort in such patients. As dementia increases nationally we must provide equity of access to palliative care for dementia patients.

    Solution

We will enable nursing staff to better understand and meet the needs of dementia patients. Patients' rooms and communal areas will be decorated and colour zoned for easy identification. Dementia appropriate technology will be incorporated where necessary to include large date and time clocks, alarm mats, sympathetic lighting and crockery and cutlery which enables patients to eat and drink as independently as possible. Signange throughout both hospital building
