    Situation

Our work is focused on Brixton, London which experiences high levels of serious youth violence. The violence is fuelled by high levels of poverty, deprivation and unemployment, high school exclusion rates, poor housing, minimal social provision and institutional racism. Young people feel powerless, trapped and frustrated and resort to violence as a result. A cycle of violence is perpetuated as groups are isolated, community relationships damaged and divides built.

    Solution

We work to break the cycle of violence using youth work, mentoring and community organising as peacemaking tools. Working with young people, their families, schools and the wider community on the most deprived estates in the area, we provide positive alternatives to a life of violence through youth clubs, 121 and group mentoring, and activities which bring different groups together over common issues and enable them to build relationships that break down the divisions between them.
