With your help, we will provide children who have been living on Jinja’s streets with a safe place to stay, where they can receive the support, care and counselling they need to leave the streets. Every £9 we raise will provide one night (and day) of safety for a street-connected child.

    Situation

Children living on the streets are some of the most vulnerable society members, often using drugs to cope with their difficult lives. Life on the streets is one of extreme poverty, with constant danger of physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Before COVID, 600 children were estimated to live full time on Jinja’s streets and a further 3,000 children were out of school working on the streets. The very strict COVID-19 lockdowns have led to more children coming to the streets due to hunger at home.

    Solution

Our Halfway Homes and Drug Rehab Centre provide a safe place for children to stay away from the streets. With your support, we will provide 1,777 nights of accommodation for these children. Our residential centres enable us to work in depth with children to help them come to terms with the trauma they faced on the streets, provide them with medical care or addiction support if needed and help them adjust to life away from the streets in a supportive environment before being resettled home.
