Nottingham Arimathea Trust provides supported housing for refugees and destitute asylum seekers. We are raising funds to help us provide good quality rooms for people who might otherwise be sleeping on the street this winter, because they have no recourse to public funds.

    Situation

Asylum seekers are some of the most vulnerable people in our community. This winter the safety net being made available to homeless people does not include destitute asylum seekers. After being refused asylum they have no access to housing, no right to work, or to support of any kind. The reality for many is destitution, sofa-surfing at best, rough sleeping, exploitative working situations, vulnerability to modern slavery, and abusive relationships.

    Solution

We provide good quality safe warm housing, but we also do much more than that. Our small but dedicated support team work with residents to help enable them to take the first steps towards new lives and to become part of a new community. For rejected asylum seekers our work also focuses on gathering new evidence to help them with new asylum or human rights claims.
