    Situation

Our work in mainstream schools has increased greatly during the pandemic. Our therapists have seen an enormous growth in referrals, as children across the country have suffered the effects of lockdowns and schools being closed. Providing music therapy in mainstream schools will enable early intervention against mental health conditions. This is crucial, as 75% of mental health problems in adult life start by the age of 18 (Gov UK, 2015). Your help will mean we are there to support children when they need us most.

    Solution

Music therapy can help children understand their emotions, meaning they learn how to be expressive in a supported way, which helps to develop self-esteem and self-confidence. These positive benefits are transferrable to the classroom, where instead of relying on challenging behaviours to cope with stress, peer pressure or gang pressure, children are able to stay motivated and focussed, using skills learnt in music therapy.
