Inspiring the next generation of Sea Champions

We want every child and young person in the UK to have access to the experiences, information and knowledge that will shape a lifelong connection to the ocean. Through our innovative youth engagement programme we will inspire and motivate the next generation to protect our precious seas.

Our ocean covers over 70% of our planet. It provides more than half the oxygen we breathe and absorbs nearly a third of our carbon emissions. But right now, we’re polluting our waters and destroying precious habitats. This is not only harming the species that live there, it’s also reducing the ocean's ability to help fight the climate crisis. The next generation will inherit the ocean and it's vital we provide the learning and inspiration young people need to protect and restore it.

Helping young people understand their connection to the ocean and encouraging them to make the right choices from the start means we will have a more engaged and aware society for the future. The appetite from young people to learn about and protect our seas has never been stronger and support from donors to our Big Give Christmas campaign will enable us to reach the next generation through delivery of our Education strategy, including curriculum linked learning, webinars and campaigns

  • The Society has a record of sustained achievement and deserves the wholehearted, passionate support of everyone who cares about our marine environment. Our special bond with our coastline and the sea, developed and nurtured over many generations, deserves nothing less.

    — HRH The Prince of Wales - Marine Conservation Society President

  • It’s been so inspirational working with the pupils and teachers from Our Lady’s Primary. From the classroom to the beach and now to parliament, our young people are showing us all how we can stand up and fight for change to protect our seas

    — Catherine Gemmell - Marine Conservation Society - Scotland Conservation Officer

  • Whilst working with MCS, I found that I was very inspired to go out and help keep the beaches clean. I thoroughly enjoyed talking about what their plans are for the future and feel I have been able to play my part in aiding their success

    — Lucy, 17

  • I love the sea because I have so many amazing memories with my friends there and in lockdown the sea was a place that always made me feel calm. The project has encouraged me to have more conversations with my friends and loved ones and to be more conscientious with my product consumption

    — Katy, 17
