For the year ending March 2019, the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) showed that an estimated 2.4 million adults aged 16 to 74 years experienced domestic abuse in the last year. This equates to a prevalence rate of approximately 6 in 100 adults. Domestic abuse is often a hidden crime that is not reported to the police. Therefore, data held by the police provides a partial picture of the actual level of domestic abuse experienced. Stalking is a crime closely linked to domestic abuse.

We will deliver 20 Healthy Relationships workshops to schools, each to 30 students. Many people in younger age groups do not understand what a healthy relationship is. Often, those in abusive relationships have simply accepted that the issues they face on a day-to-day basis are normal. There is evidence to suggest that with guidance, education and raising awareness of unacceptable behaviours by perpetrators, it is possible to change attitudes and help young people create healthy relationships.
