Parenting is tough but childhood doesn't wait The challenges that parents face can range from struggling with illness or disability to mental health challenges, financial pressures such as poverty and debt, isolation and loneliness, particularly after COVID and some of our families are struggling with domestic abuse. All of these issues can have a huge detrimental effect on children. Struggles at home can affect cognitive, physical and emotional development and impact the rest of a child's life.
We address this problem by supporting parents to give their children the best possible start in life. We do this by providing one-to-one peer support from trained volunteers and staff who have parenting experience themselves and understand how tough it can be. On a weekly basis through a home-visit (or phone call or garden-meet during COVID), they provide non-judgemental support which can be anything from talking through problems, to practical help with shopping, trips or helping with homework.
