Situation
1 in 2 people leaving prison will be back within a year. Having a job increases people’s chance of success, yet only 17% of prison leavers are employed a year after release. Too often, people who want to make a fresh start after prison are held back by not having the confidence, skills or support to make it a reality. Covid-19 has made the problem worse with many people in prison still spending 23 hours a day confined to their cells. Without the right support, prison leavers can’t move forward.
Solution
StandOut Trainees are significantly more likely to find employment and leave the justice system for good. Our innovative programmes inside prison empower people with the resilience and confidence needed to build a brighter future, and we offer 1:1 support after prison for as long as needed. After supporting 600 prison leavers during the pandemic through the StandOut Helpline, our coaches are now back delivering group workshops inside prisons to help people prepare for life and work upon release.
