    Situation

With youth unemployment set to rise to its highest level since the 1980s, there's never been a more important time to support young people to develop their skills and confidence for their next steps into the world. Research from the DofE (2020) shows that students in alternative provisions are 35% less likely than students in mainstream schools to go on to a sustained post-16 destination. Targeted career-related support is crucial to help our students develop skills for their futures.

    Solution

-One-to-one mentoring programme, with strong focus on enterprise and teamwork, run by our Lead Learning Assistant -Work-related workshops, supported by business volunteers, covering areas such as interview skills and career pathways -Increasing our work experience placement opportunities, with mentors providing support to students to help them settle and make the most of their placements -Ongoing support to prepare our students for the transition from education onto their chosen next steps
