A Link Worker is a trusted adult, based in school, who guides each child we work with through a personalised 2-year programme of support. They are there to champion and support each child and their family, to help young people to build the skills and relationships they need to thrive.

    Situation

1 in 5 children in West London don’t get the support and opportunities they need to thrive. Research has shown that building a positive relationship with a trusted adult can help young people to feel supported and lead to better long-term outcomes for their future. There are over 12,000 children in our Zone alone (North Kensington, North Hammersmith, North Westminster and South Brent) who would benefit from this kind of personalised social, emotional, and academic support.

    Solution

Working with over 40 schools in our Zone, we identify children who could benefit most from personalised, early intervention support. WLZ Link Workers each work with around 35-40 children, to design a 2-year support plan based around their needs and goals. By seeing children in school everyday, and getting to know each child really well, their Link Worker can help young people to recognise their challenges, set aspirational goals and build their skills, relationships and confidence.
