Jamie's Farm

Enabling children to thrive at school & in society

Being socially or academically excluded often has a profound impact on a child’s life: a downward spiral of life expectations can begin that can affect relationships, education & employment. Help us bring our proven solution to 2,000 children this year by involving them in running our farms.

Situation

50,000 children and young people in England are in provision for excluded pupils, and 1 in 10 of all children have fallen off the school register completely. The fallout of the pandemic continues to exacerbate children’s disadvantages, eroding their mental health, engagement with education and life chances. Without proven support and interventions like ours, they face a downward spiral into psychological and socioeconomic crisis.

Solution

Jamie’s Farm works together with the education sector to catch multiply disadvantaged children before they slip through the net. Our immersive 5-day farm residential and follow-up, allows children to take on challenging, practical work, e.g. farming, gardening, cooking. Our therapeutic focus supports children to shed negative labels and see themselves in a positive light – tackling the root causes of exclusion. Early intervention has been highlighted as a key means of addressing this problem.

  • “Before visiting the Farm, it was quite a tough time for me. They made me feel so much better, physically and mentally. Their aim is to help out young people and all I can say is that has been completed. I was never really confident in myself, but they showed me that I should be and I can see why."

    — Young Person

  • “Thank you for teaching me more about myself, for allowing me to open up about my feelings, and for making me feel listened to. Thank you for this experience.”

    — Young Person

  • “I've been blown away by the incredibly professional, personal and considered approach taken by Jamie's Farm. I'm excited to continue working on a more personal level with the students we brought with us and see what long-term impact we can have on them socially, emotionally and educationally.”

    — Teacher, Head of Year

  • “Our son visited you a few weeks ago with his school. He had the best week, taking part in so many activities and gained so much confidence with the animals. So, with thanks we have made our donation so others can also have the best week ever!”
