The women this project will support are single mothers with an average of four children. They have low levels of education and do domestic work or run small businesses but have to spend 90% of their income on rent. This makes it impossible for them to support their families or plan for their futures. Despite high rent costs their houses are old, small, dilapidated structures that leak in rainy season. They are far from the town, hampering opportunities to access work or expand their businesses.

We have been granted land where we will build a community for the mothers that will provide safe, practical and secure homes. The compound will provide homes for 7 families, benefitting 30 mothers and their children. Each house will have access to running water and electricity, so children can study after dark and new businesses will be possible. A shared block of toilets and showers will improve sanitation and reduce risks posed to girls when they have to travel to access these facilities.
