It is difficult for young people to find appropriate accommodation if they become homeless with limited hostel places and landlords often unwilling to rent to those on benefits. It is particularly hard to find accommodation on the same day and there is often a gap where they are at risk of sleeping rough or staying in situations where they may be exposed to unhelpful activities such as drug and alcohol misuse. For those who are keen to work, the option of staying in a hostel is not open to them.
Nottingham Nightstop provides the safety net of emergency accommodation at the point of need, preventing the young person from sleeping rough or needing to stay in inappropriate accommodation. Not only does it provide a roof over their head, but it also provides a friendly host to support them during their overnight stay. Supported Lodgings is able to provide a longer stay for the young person, giving them the opportunity to find work or education and to explore all their accommodation options.
The hosts were absolutely lovely and amazing, nothing was too much of a ask, beautiful food every night and a lovely house. Thank you again to them, they really went above and beyond for me and I can’t thank them and Nightstop enough
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all the support you have offered and always going the extra mile. [The young person] has always shared how supporting and amazing you are and I just want to make you aware in case she never mentioned it.
[The best things were] being in the warmth of a home and bed and getting to know some lovely people and families along the way
We get the pleasure of knowing that we have done something good for someone. Everyone who comes through the door has had some benefit, even if it’s just a bed and a meal for the night. It’s knowing you’ve saved them from being at risk for two or three nights.
