SSAFA has been providing lifelong support to our Forces and their families since 1885. Last year, we helped more than 79,000 people in need, from Second World War veterans to veterans of more recent conflicts, and their families. We want to make sure our beneficiaries have a Happy Christmas.

Situation
Women of the Armed Forces community may find themselves without somewhere to live or require a place of safety. Many who come to us in need as they have no-one to turn to in their situation. The crucial intervention we provide is life changing. The Covid-19 pandemic continues to exacerbate these needs. Our mission is to ensure that we are here to provide much needed relief for women and children who have suffered domestic abuse or family breakdown within the Armed Forces community.
Solution
SSAFA's Stepping Stone Home, also known as Gildea House, rebuild the lives of women and children with a military connection who have survived domestic abuse or family breakdown. The home is a sheltered refuge with space for 20 families or over 50 residents at a time, ensuring their safety, increasing their confidence and empowering them to lead independent lives. No other agencies or organisations based in North London provide this support to women and children in desperate need of help.
