    Situation

The Lake District is one of Britain’s best-loved landscape. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site – a place worth protecting. But erosion from people, coupled with severe weather events and climate change, is causing ugly scars and environmental damage in the fragile mountains. There are now 351 paths - totaling nearly 400 miles - which have been identified as needing repair work, maintenance and monitoring.

    Solution

Fix the Fells works to tackle this problem by repairing and maintaining over 300 upland paths, helping to keep the Lake District a special place for us and for future generations. Our volunteers play a major part in our work. We have over 130 volunteers undertaking work to repair paths across the National Park, working in all weathers, helping to pitch paths, clear drains and re landscaping erosion. Work is carried out in an environmentally sensitive way, using local stone and materials.
