Unemployment is holding 1 in 3 young women back in Ethiopia. A lack of skills training is stopping women from earning an independent income. This project aims to support marginalised young women with training and job placements in order to secure a brighter future for themselves and their families.

    Situation

According to a recent study, young women in Ethiopia struggle to get work experience and remain unemployed far longer than men. Without the ability to earn an independent income, young women are often forced to endure poverty, unsafe living conditions and potentially violent relationships. Women from marginalised groups, such as women with disabilities and survivors of sexual violence, experience unemployment at even higher levels and will be actively invited to take part in this project.

    Solution

This project aims to transform the lives of 25 marginalised young women through professional training, life skills and full-time job placements in one of the countries fasting growing industries. The beauty and spa industry is booming in Ethiopia and women with technical training as beauticians have the opportunity to gain well-paid skilled employment. This project will economically empower 25 marginalised young women, boost their confidence and increase their status in the community.
