Seriously ill children are more isolated than ever. Our therapeutic recreation camps are proven to positively address these effects. In 2022, by means of our physical and/or virtual camps, we aim to provide even more camp places to help some of the most vulnerable children in society.

    Situation

Around 100,000 children and young people in the UK live with a serious illness that badly affects their quality of life. Long periods in hospital or recovering at home mean that they are isolated from their peers and find it difficult to build or maintain friendships. They miss out on “normal” activities such as sleepovers and birthday parties, which can lead to low confidence and self-esteem. In some cases, this leads to mental health issues, with children feeling little hope for their future.

    Solution

We tackle these issues through life-changing residential camps and our virtual 'Camp in the Cloud' service for children living with over 130 conditions. Our services offer an escape from the confines of illness to discover abilities and friends. In these challenging times, 'Camp in the Cloud' allows us to deliver camp magic directly into the safety of campers' homes. Support from the Big Give will allow us to support up to 200 further seriously ill children in 2021.
