Situation

Waiting list times and reduction in services within the NHS mean children with additional needs do not get the support they need to reach their full potential. Growing Hope King’s Cross was set up to support families with additional needs. Our founder works as an occupational therapist. In her previous work she had encountered families who were scraping together every penny in order that they could pay for intervention their children needed and benefited from but they were not able to access.

Solution

We aim to solve this problem in four ways. Firstly, through the provision of therapy services which currently include occupational, physiotherapy, music and speech and language therapy. Secondly, we run groups for parents enabling them to process the change that additional needs means for their child’s life. Thirdly, we run siblings groups enabling siblings to process their experience of being a brother or sister of a child with additional needs. Finally, we offer prayer to those who want it.

  • “Attending these therapy sessions has taught me so much. I feel that I’m able to interact with my child much more than before, as I have the knowledge and confidence to try the techniques at home.”

  • “When I heard about Growing Hope I thought it was too good to be true. I had reservations about asking for help but at that point I was willing to try anything that would help my son and his needs. When I went for my first appointment, the service exceeded my expectations in thousands of ways.”

    — Parent

  • “Amazing people. You all have really helped with improving my son’s quality of life in all areas. Thank you for believing in my son’s potential.”

  • "I took part in the When Dreams Change course about 7 months after my child had been diagnosed with autism. I found the course incredibly helpful, it felt like a very safe space and it was very structured. It was an incredibly helpful process to pin my thoughts on and to work out how I was feeling."
