    Situation

Research shows families of disabled children face greater levels of poverty & isolation, a situation greatly exacerbated by Covid. 60% of parents that we work with stated that the lockdowns have had a negative effect on their child with 33% saying that the effect was 'Significant'. 67% of surveyed KEEN London families have noticed developmental regression in their child. In addition, children have experienced increased mental health & wellbeing issues including stress, loneliness and worry.

    Solution

Interviews with our families revealed that what 94% of parents/carers wanted most in the recovery was to continue social activities for their children and emotional support. We were delighted to restart in person sessions at the beginning of October and continue to integrate the lessons learnt in lockdown. Our groups are smaller, more social and include more access to outdoor space to increase opportunities for sensory interaction with the environment, mindfulness and child led play.
