52 countries are in debt crisis. Their debts are undermining the ability of governments to invest in vital services like healthcare and vaccines. This is a huge barrier to ending the global pandemic and responding to problems like tackling the climate crisis. Thanks to people taking action some of the debts have been suspended. But private lenders like banks and speculators are yet to cancel or suspend debts. We have to keep up the pressure and push for debt cancellation.

We are campaigning to secure debt cancellation, together with over 200 organisations around the world. Thanks to campaigning that has already happened we’ve won some suspension of debts up to the end of 2021, but debt cancellation is needed to avoid a huge build up. Poor countries need debt cancellation to bring their debts down to manageable, sustainable levels. Working side by side with campaigners from countries in crisis, we will campaign for international action to tackle the debt crisis.
