Challengers is a local charity dedicated to breaking down the barriers to play for disabled children and young people in the South East. We are raising funds to provide spaces at our fully inclusive Preschools, Play and Youth schemes for disabled children and young people aged 2-18.
It ran from 12:00 PM, 30 November 2021 to 12:00 PM, 7 December 2021

Isolation and exclusion are regular occurrences for disabled children, young people and their families. Many disabled children do not have the same social and leisure opportunities as their non-disabled peers due to a plethora of physical, social and attitudinal barriers. Mainstream play and leisure providers deny disabled children the same opportunities to play, socialise and make friends, resulting in a group of children and young people that have to fight for their right to be included.
Challengers provide fully inclusive play and leisure opportunities at our Pre-schools, Play and Youth schemes that enable disabled children and young people to have fun without barriers. Our highly trained staff offer 1:1 and 2:1 support to anyone that needs it to ensure no one is excluded at Challengers. At the same time, families can access respite from their care responsibilities whilst safe in the knowledge their child is in a place where they are cared for and supported.
Challengers is currently the only play opportunity that my daughter has access too, so is absolutely essential to break up the school holidays. It is also the only access to respite that we get, so being able to get things done at home or to spend time with her siblings is invaluable.
My children love Challengers. It is the one place where they can play together, and where I can leave my son without worrying about him. It is a big treat to be allowed to go to Challengers and we love it.
We love you and you are part of our family. As with any beloved family member we would be utterly devastated if we lost you.
Our daughter loves going to Challengers. She has some friends she likes to play with, and it is something she is able to do independently of her family. For us it has been an incredible support.
