    Situation

The UNHCR's annual global trends report, published in June 2020, reveals the number of people forcibly displaced worldwide has almost doubled in the past decade to 79.5 million, the highest figure on record. Forced displacement now affects more than one per cent of humanity.

    Solution

Through the government's Community Sponsorship Scheme a group of local people have joined together to provide homes and support for vulnerable refugee families. Canterbury Welcomes Refugees has been doing this since 2019. Although we can only help one family at a time, it is a very tangible and long-lasting solution to the desperate problems of the adults and children we support.
