'Love Your River' is a project aiming to improve water quality, reduce flooding and provide habitat in the River Mersey and its tributaries to create healthy rivers for people and wildlife to enjoy. We engage with local communities through volunteer task days e.g. river clean-ups and balsam bashes.
It ran from 12:00 PM, 22 April 2021 to 12:00 PM, 29 April 2021
Registered Charity in England and Wales (1073152)
Poor water quality in rivers from a combination of sources e.g. household waste and agriculture; litter and plastic pollution; poor quality habitat and a lack of it due to ever-increasing urban area; flooding as a result of new development and climate change; invasive non-native plant and animal species; lack of education around river issues and the impacts we have on them; mental and physical health issues.
Cleaning up and improving water quality in local rivers to provide safe habitat for a variety of wildlife; helping to reduce flood risk to property using natural flood management techniques; controlling invasive non-native species to allow native plants to thrive; educating the public on river/conservation issues; providing volunteer opportunities and creating aesthetically pleasing sites to improve mental health, physical health and boost community spirit.
