Every week, Music Masters delivers a high quality music education to 1,100 primary school children from diverse and socio-economically challenged areas. We believe all children should be able to access the power of music to benefit academic development, social development and wellbeing.

    Situation

For years we have seen increasing inequality of access to a great music education for young people across the UK. Outside of our partner schools there are also significant barriers to participation in classical music, such as disability, race, and wealth. The percentage of our pupils eligible for free school meals is almost double the national average, and up to 71% have English as an additional language. Thus, many pupils would otherwise be denied the opportunity for their talent to thrive.

    Solution

Music Masters is determined to remove these barriers, by opening up routes for participation in music to all children, regardless of background. We work with state primary schools in London to provide group and individual music lessons to a total of 1,100 pupils every week. This boosts their wider academic attainment as well as musical. Our Pathways programme identifies pupils with the most talent from communities under-represented in classical music and provides them with additional mentoring.
