    Situation

Eastern Africa faces complex challenges from the legacy of civil conflict, poor governance and inadequate education and training especially for the marginalised and refugees. The education systems are weak and fail to provide learners with the skills to address the challenges their communities face. There is also a failue to build on the very strong community values in the region which helped in the past to support good management of forests and the wider environment.

    Solution

We will invest in the key skills in refugee and marginalised communities to equip them to address the environmental and livelihood demands of the legacy of conflict. Rwanda is a valuable location for such and investment because of their experience of extreme conflict in the 1990s and their successful investment in education quality. by working both with nationals and refugees the project will have a regional impact.
