Spring Community Hub

Help us put the fun back in summer holidays!

44% of Southwark’s children live in poverty. As we plan our holidays for this summer, a different kind of lockdown continues for these children. But with your help, our holiday club will give them an escape too, with fun and exciting day trips away from London.

  • It was a great trip, my girls enjoyed themselves so much. In their words, “It was the best day ever!” Thank you for putting this on. We look forward to more!

    — Mum of two children who went on a trip last year

  • I like exploring new places with holiday club and socialising without any worries. My favourite place was the farm because of the animals. My favourite were the horses - I’ve never seen one in real life. For the seaside I like that we got to swim and make sandcastles.

    — Okubotin, 8

  • What I like from the beach is splashing and I really learned how to swim. I had fun at the beach. What I like is playing with sand and the rocks and popping bubbles and building sandcastles. I loved it! I want to go to the beach again this year.

    — Daniella, 4

  • I like getting out of London to see different things. It’s fun going with friends. Doing new things and seeing friends is the best. I hope we go on even better trips after coronavirus and we don’t have to social distance so we can still hug.

    — Victoria, 7

We started our holiday club so no child in Southwark has to go hungry through the holidays. The pandemic has made things harder, with many spending lockdown in cramped conditions, isolated from their friends and missing time at school. Research shows children in London, especially ones from poorer backgrounds, are more likely to suffer from mental health issues. Our trips are a chance for children to have fun, learn with friends, and experience life away from London.

By funding our holiday club trips you’ll be giving a child the chance to play in the sea for the first time or even just meet a horse. Our holiday clubs don’t just feed bellies and minds, they give children a break from the challenges life in London brings. That might be hunger, loneliness or loss of learning. You will be giving kids brand new experiences and memories that will last a lifetime, all while boosting their mental health and putting the fun back into their holidays.
