We are addressing the problem of climate change/drought and deforestation through tree planting programmes where trees for carbon capture and food are planted in community woods and at household level in communities and on hillsides to overcome erosion.

    Situation

    1. Global warming caused by carbon release into the atmosphere. 2. Deforestation of the planet, but in particular, Uganda. Denuding of hillside tree cover leading to eroded hilltops and barren land/infertility. 3. Food insecurity for poor rural peasant farmers. 4. More droughts caused by climate change and their impacts on poor rural communities.

    Solution

    1. Permanent carbon capture growing pine trees for timber use in construction where the carbon is not released. 2. Combatting erosion of hillsides through reforestation and recovery of vegetation. 3. Planting of household food trees and useful trees which provide food and income to poor rural peasant farmers. 4. Training in sustainable agriculture and organic farming practices which recover the soil and increase food yields. 5.Planting macadamia trees which are drought resilient and fruitful.
