Help us secure Bay Meadows and create a nature park for Marlborough. Together we can protect and enhance these important chalk stream and floodplain habitats, home to Water Vole, Otter, Brown Trout, birds such as Snipe and rare plants and flowers. We will create space for people's wellbeing too.

    Situation

Many native species are under threat, and in significant decline. It is widely acknowledged that part of the issue is increasing development or unsuitable land use. These can cause issues with flooding, lack of nesting sites, changes in water quality amongst others. It is also, partly, due to human behaviour and lack of understanding of how to share natural spaces without negatively impacting native wildlife. Issues such as dogs off lead impact the success of breeding for ground nesting birds.

    Solution

We will secure, enhance and maintain suitable habitat for wildlife and people through the creation of Bay Meadows Nature Park. We will follow previously successful methods, retaining parts of the site as restricted access, and guiding people to follow paths though the site linking with other walking/cycling routes. We will carry out works aimed at improving the water quality and flow, creating suitable habitat for breeding Brown Trout and nesting Water Voles, as well as meadow enhancement.
