Heeley City Farm has been delivering sustainable Urban Farming since 1981 - we want to be here for our local community for the next 40 years and need your help to continue our work: Organic growing of local produce at our community garden sites, energy & looking after our Rare Breeds farm animals

    Situation

We are addressing food poverty and fuel poverty through our food-growing networks and through our work in deprived neighbourhoods. Austerity and public sector spending cuts (+ Covid-19 in 2020) have driven 1,000s more families to turn to food banks, and 12% of homes in our city are living in fuel poverty. Last year we supported 200 households to make energy savings and cut down their fuel bills, and we delivered 60 Winter Wellbeing packs to elderly residents to help them keep warm and well.

    Solution

We are working to refresh our own Zero Carbon strategy and lead by example: reducing our carbon footprint; protecting wildlife and biodiversity; composting waste on site; teaching others to have organic growing skills and promoting sustainable agriculture. We host the Repair Cafe (mending small appliances) and are home to Sheffield Renewables. Our Wind Turbine and Solar PV on site generate green electricity and our Community Cafe serves veggie/vegan meals using fresh produce grown by volunteers
