Covid-19 has had huge impacts on children’s wellbeing and mental health: 79% of those we work with are worried things won’t go back to normal; 90% have experienced anxiety, and many have gone days without leaving the house. We believe the power of theatre can help support then to recover from this. We support young people most likely to miss out on arts and drama opportunities: in 2019-20, 40% of those we worked with were eligible for Pupil Premium and 56% were from global majority backgrounds.

When asked how we could help, children said they need things to do, 100% felt being in touch with The Yard had been important this year. So, with your support, we’ll provide more than 120 sessions of free weekly drama clubs for 59 children aged 4 -14 in and around Hackney Wick between Sept 2021 and June 2022. Each session will be Covid-safe (adapting to in-person or online delivery as needed), be led by talented artists and facilitators, creating a space of play and social connection.
