This campaign has now closed

With the COVID-19 crisis showing the importance of access to green spaces, we want to highlight the devastating impact that visitors can unintentionally have on our landscape, the staggering costs involved to fix this damage, and how we can all play our part in protecting Scotland’s wild places.

    Situation

When restrictions on movement stated to ease after the first lockdown in 2020, the beautiful landscapes in our care became popular destinations for people keen to get out and enjoy nature after months indoors. Whilst we were delighted to welcome visitors again, the high volume of people placed an unprecedented strain on both our habitats and facilities. As we move out of lockdown once more, we anticipate a similar swell in visitor numbers this spring, posing major challenges to our environment.

    Solution

We will address these issues through a programme of footpath management that guides visitors away from ecologically delicate areas; a renewed public engagement programme with local communities and visitors; and a national media campaign that highlights the danger our natural heritage faces and helps every visitor care for the wild places we all love.
