Rewilding Britain

Rewilding Britain – enabling our green recovery

We want to see rewilding flourishing across Britain, reconnecting us with the natural world, sustaining communities and tackling the biodiversity extinction crisis and climate emergency. Help us implement rewilding as a key part of our green recovery, and restore our essential natural world.

Situation

The two greatest challenges of our time – the biodiversity extinction crisis and the climate emergency. The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, ranked 189th out of 218 countries. 56% of UK species are in decline, 15% threatened with extinction. There has never been a more urgent need to address the state of our natural world. Restoring healthy ecosystems on land and at sea is essential for our future, for reversing biodiversity loss and reducing carbon emissions.

Solution

Rewilding Britain will influence policy, inspire public action and catalyse joined-up practical action. This will help establish rewilding and nature-enhancing land and marine uses across at least 30% of Britain by 2030. Accelerating the scale and pace of rewilding can act to: - capture at least 13.5% of current UK carbon emissions - restore ecosystems on land and water - reverse the decline of Britain’s wildlife and bring back missing species - provide diversified economic opportunities & jobs
