Planting trees is one of the best things we can do to combat climate change. Together for Trees will bring people together to create new woodlands across the Yorkshire Dales, helping to increase woodland cover, connect wildlife habitats and empower people to take simple actions to support nature.

    Situation

Planting trees is vitally important in our fight to tackle the climate emergency. Woodland cover in the Dales is only 2.7% - the lowest of all our national parks. Diseases such as ash dieback, poor management, over grazing and lack of awareness all place a significant threat upon the valuable woodlands we have. The future of our countryside depends on inspiring more people to care about the natural world and empowering them to take simple actions to support nature.

    Solution

YDMT works with farmers and landowners to increase woodland cover by creating small woodlands and wildlife corridors that connect the patchwork mosaic of habitats in the Dales. These habitats provide vital nature based solutions, increasing biodiversity, creating natural flood defences and reducing soil erosion. Our outreach work also enables young people and disadvantaged groups to get involved in woodland creation and experiences in the Dales that improve wellbeing and inspire green action.
