Parley Common is an area of 107 hectares of heathland in Dorset. It is currently home to all six UK native species of reptiles, three species of native amphibians, and many birds, butterflies and dragonfly species. We aim to purchase 19.37 hectares to secure the site for conservation in the future.

    Situation

We aim to purchase this land and manage it for multiple benefits including: biodiversity, climate change mitigation and adaptation, increasing resilience against fires through the use of fire-breaks, and benefits to people including enjoyment of the site for the public.

    Solution

Reducing uncertainty of the future of the site. We are keen to purchase part of the site whilst the offer is there, otherwise its future may be uncertain. In addition, uncertainties around the site’s SPA designation in the context of Brexit means the future of the site is uncertain without clear ownership within ARC’s charitable remit.
